Williams, Ingram, Mitchell to join President’s Cancer Panel

The White House has announced its intent to appoint the following experts to the President’s Cancer Panel, which advises the president of the United States on barriers to progress in reducing the burden of cancer:

John P. Williams, a breast cancer surgeon and medical director of the Breast Cancer School for Patients, and a clinical professor at the Institute for Biohealth Innovation, George Mason University.

Robert A. Ingram, a general partner at Hatteras Venture Partners.

Edith P. Mitchell, a clinical professor of medicine and medical oncology in the Department of Medical Oncology, director of the Center to Eliminate Cancer Disparities, and associate director of diversity affairs at the Sidney Kimmel Cancer Center, Thomas Jefferson University.


Belani named IASLC chief science officer

Chandra P. Belani was named chief science officer of the International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer.

As CSO, Belani will direct, guide and support IASLC scientific strategy and serve as a spokesperson for the IASLC at conferences.

Belani is a professor of Medicine in the Division of Hematology/Oncology in the Department of Medicine at the Penn State Hershey Medical Center. He also worked in several positions at the Penn State College of Medicine as deputy director of the Penn State Cancer Institute, associate director of Clinical Research and Director of the Lung Cancer Program.

He has developed and identified novel therapeutic strategies that have been approved and adopted as standards of care for the management of lung cancer.
