Andrew Frankart received a five-year, $729,000 American Cancer Society/American Society for Radiation Oncology Clinician Scientist Development Grant to lead a clinical trial at the University of Cincinnati Cancer Center that will test the safety and effectiveness of a more targeted radiation dose for patients with large tumors.

FLASH radiation therapy shows promise in first-in-human trial

Researchers recently completed the first human trial of proton FLASH radiotherapy at the Cincinnati Children’s/University of Cincinnati Medical Center Proton Therapy Center. FLASH RT was shown to be as safe and appeared to be as effective as conventional radiation without causing unexpected side effects in the study in a small number of people with bone cancer.
