AI improves breast cancer diagnosis

Artificial Intelligence can improve breast cancer detection and reduce workload on physicians, according to a new study featuring over 461,000 women. The research published in the journal Nature Medicine looked at integrating an AI tool as part of a national screening program for women without symptoms of breast cancer in Germany.

To make earlier diagnosis easier, a Massachusetts Institute of Technology team has developed portable detectors based on ultrasound, which could be used much more frequently. The team reports that they have improved the resolution of the images produced by their system, making it easier to spot potential tumors, as well as cysts and microcalcifications.
