Abraham Chachoua named director of Perlmutter Cancer Center’s Lung Cancer Center

Abraham Chachoua was named director of the Lung Cancer Center at Perlmutter Cancer Center.

Chachoua is the Jay and Isabel Fine Professor of Oncology and a professor of urology at NYU Grossman School of Medicine. He is also the section chief of medical oncology, associate director of cancer services, and clinical director of solid tumor oncology at Perlmutter Cancer Center.

Chachoua has led several Perlmutter Cancer Center and NYU Langone initiatives in lung cancer screening and care. Chachoua replaces Robert Cerfolio, the inaugural center leader, who will focus his attention on his roles as executive vice president and vice dean at NYU Langone as well as chief of hospital operations, chief of the Division of Thoracic Surgery and professor of cardiothoracic surgery.

 

CWRU and UH Researchers receive $5 million from NCI to investigate relationships between HIV and lung cancer in East Africa

Researchers with the Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine and University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center have received $5 million in funding from NCI to establish an HIV-associated Malignancy Research Center focused on lung cancer in East Africa.

The team will collaborate with Ugandan and Tanzanian researchers at the Joint Clinical Research Centre in Kampala, Makerere University Lung Institute, Uganda Cancer Institute, Mulago National Hospital, National Institute for Medical Research, Muhumbili National Hospital, and the Ocean Road Cancer Institute.

The HAMRC will investigate novel approaches to characterize lung cancer epidemiology, somatic mutation burden, HIV and accelerated aging, and radiological features of lung cancer and the relationship to HIV-1 infection.
