Huntsman Cancer Foundation: “We are asking the University of Utah to reinstate Dr. Beckerle”

When the University of Utah officials unexpectedly fired Mary Beckerle from her job as CEO and director of the Huntsman Cancer Institute earlier this week, they made an enemy few people in the state would wish for: the powerful Huntsman family.
“Mr. [Jon] Huntsman [Sr.] is incredibly disappointed and dismayed by this unilateral action,” said Susan Sheehan, president and chief operating officer of the Huntsman Cancer Foundation. “The family wasn’t given any heads-up on this, which hurts them deeply.
“They are the founders, and they continue to provide very generous support for the institute, and they deserve better than this, in terms of what they got from the University of Utah. They deserve the respect as the principal benefactors and visionaries of the Huntsman Cancer Institute since 1993.
“So, he is very upset and has made public statements urging her reinstatement.”
