Mesothelioma cells have a survival trick. When researchers exposed them to an experimental drug that targeted one of the cancer’s main growth switches, the cells didn’t die. Instead, they found a way around the drug’s effect.
Pleurectomy/decortication, a lung-sparing surgery, can be performed safely with low mortality in carefully selected patients with pleural mesothelioma, according to a study from the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai and the Mount Sinai Tisch Cancer Center.
