Radiation before mastectomy cuts time delays for reconstructive surgery in breast cancer patients

Researchers at MD Anderson Cancer Center showed that altering the sequence of breast cancer treatment to administer radiation before mastectomy allowed for concurrent breast reconstruction surgery, which reduced the number of operations required, minimized treatment delays, and improved patient satisfaction.

UCLA study: High-dose radiotherapy + chemo effective in treating NSCLC

A study led by researchers from the UCLA Health Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center showed that using high doses of radiation while integrating an ablative radiotherapy technique called stereotactic ablative radiotherapy concurrently with chemotherapy is safe and effective in treating people with locally advanced non-small cell lung cancer that is not suitable for surgery.

Nationwide Children’s Hospital and OSUCCC—James open proton therapy center opens

Nationwide Children’s Hospital and The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center—Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Richard J. Solove Research Institute opened a $100 million, 55,000 square foot proton therapy center. It is the first treatment facility in central Ohio offering this highly targeted form of radiation therapy for treatment of complex tumors that cannot be removed through surgery.
