Researchers decipher mechanism enabling breast cancer to metastasize to the brain

A large-scale international study, led by researchers from the Gray Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences at Tel Aviv University, found a mechanism that allows breast cancer to send metastases to the brain. The findings could enable the development of new drugs and personalized monitoring for early detection and treatment of brain metastases.

To make earlier diagnosis easier, a Massachusetts Institute of Technology team has developed portable detectors based on ultrasound, which could be used much more frequently. The team reports that they have improved the resolution of the images produced by their system, making it easier to spot potential tumors, as well as cysts and microcalcifications.
