Many patients with advanced cancer feel treatment not aligned with personal care goals, UC study shows

A study led by UCLA Health Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center investigators suggests that adding hormone therapy to post-operative radiotherapy may provide little survival benefit for most men with prostate cancer, especially for those with very low PSA levels before treatment. 

A five-year retrospective study led by investigators at the UCLA Health Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center shows that prostate-specific membrane antigen PET/CT scans can help doctors target treatment more precisely for men whose prostate cancer returns after surgery, improving long-term outcomes and potentially reducing unnecessary side effects. 

Investigators at the UCLA Health Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center have opened a clinical trial that will look at whether combining precision radiation with a targeted radioactive therapy drug can help patients with recurrent prostate cancer delay progression, while delaying or avoiding the side effects of long-term hormone therapy.
