In Brief Wafik El-Deiry to lead cancer biology program at Brown
Wafik El-Deiry was named associate dean for Oncologic Sciences at Brown University and head of the Brown-Lifespan Joint Program in Cancer Biology.
The appointment to the newly-created position was announced by Lifespan and The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University.
El-Deiry, who will arrive in January from the Fox Chase Cancer, where he serves as deputy cancer center director for the Translational Tesearch Program, co-leader of the Molecular Therapeutics Program and professor at the Department Hematology/Oncology. He is also the William Wikoff Smith Chair in Cancer Research and the American Cancer Society Research Professor.
El Deiry will start his job in January. At Brown, he will have appointments in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine and the Department of Medicine.
In his role as the director of the unified cancer biology program, El-Deiry will design, recruit, and lead the cancer biology programs at Brown and Lifespan affiliates Rhode Island Hospital, Hasbro Children’s Hospital and The Miriam Hospital.
He will also serve as the inaugural director of the Joint Program in Cancer Biology in the Departments of Pathology and Medicine.
