NCAB Asks Government To Take Steps Aimed at Reducing Health Hazards From Cigarettes

The National Cancer Advisory Board, declining to seek specific legislation to establish maximum tar and nicotine levels in cigarettes, has called on the federal government to take steps for reducing the health hazards from smoking cigarettes.

These steps should include efforts to reduce cigarette smoking, the board resolution said. It also recommended that federal regulatory agencies in the health field should be utilized both to reduce smoking and to enforce hazard-reduction measures. Where necessary, the President and Congress should consider legislation to strengthen the power of the regulatory agencies, the resolution said.
