Innovative PET scanner could change the way lung cancer is evaluated and treatment is assessed

Scientists at UC Davis Comprehensive Cancer and the UC Davis Department of Radiology have discovered a novel way to image the unique blood supply of the lungs. Their findings, published in the Journal of Nuclear Medicine, suggest the new method could help determine if lung cancer treatment is working.

A UC Davis Health study found that a single dose of Bacillus Calmette-Guérin, or BCG, the vaccine for tuberculosis, reduced liver tumor burden and extended the survival of mice with liver cancer. The study, published in Advanced Science, is the first to show the promising effects of the vaccine in treating liver cancer.
