Health Promotion Council, together with Jefferson Health, received HPC’s Smoking Treatment Accreditation & Recognition, a tobacco dependence treatment accreditation program funded through a grant from the Pennsylvania Department of Health. The STAR Accreditation program is managed by HPC in partnership with the University of Pennsylvania and other local/regional Advisory Panel Member organizations.
STAR seeks to facilitate the integration of tobacco dependence treatment into existing healthcare workflow in order to elevate the level of tobacco dependence treatment available to those members of the community who are in need of help with this problem. The STAR team provides extensive technical assistance to all organizations who seek to be accredited and supports them in meeting all the requirements for accreditation.
The STAR Accreditation process focuses on tobacco-related efforts that are expected to improve overall survival, reduce hospital readmissions, and shorten hospital stays among those afflicted. Jefferson Health—Lung Cancer Screening Program is now designated as a Comprehensive STAR program.
