

Assistant/Associate/Full Professor, Cellular & Molecular Medicine (Tenure Track)

With strong support from the State of Arizona and the College of Medicine-Tucson, the Department of Cellular and Molecular Medicine (CMM) at the University of Arizona (UA) in Tucson, AZ seeks applications for a tenure-track faculty member in the area of cancer biology at the rank of Assistant/Associate/Full Professor. The anticipated start date is summer/fall of 2025. Candidates with a Ph.D. or M.D./Ph.D. and expertise in cancer biology will be considered. The successful candidate will be expected to establish an innovative research program in cancer biology research, secure extramural funding, and provide high-level instruction to medical and/or graduate students. Areas of interest and expertise are broad and include: (1) cancer cell biology; (2) tumor microenvironment, including cancer mechanobiology; (3) imaging and/or computational approaches to cancer modeling, (4) cancer evolution (e.g., genomic instability, mechanisms of drug resistance, etc.), and (5) bioinformatics.

CMM is renowned for its expertise in cardiovascular, cancer, and respiratory biology and disease research. Applicants bridging any of these disciplines are especially encouraged to apply. CMM is a fast-growing, highly interdisciplinary unit whose faculty make pivotal contributions to UA's mission of multidisciplinary and collaborative discovery through cross-cutting basic and applied/translational research.
Approximately 30% of CMM primary faculty work within or are affiliated with The University of Arizona Cancer Center (UACC). UACC is a National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center at the forefront for expanded, high impact precision cancer medicine. UACC has strengths in basic mechanisms of carcinogenesis, tumor microenvironment, disparities, and cancer prevention. UACC is supported by a broad array of research activities including Data Science, Human Immune Monitoring, Cancer Imaging, Genomics, and Metabolomics, and a comprehensive biorepository which provides biospecimen collection, processing, and storage coupled with clinical and risk factor data collection for a variety of cancers.
The successful candidate will have access to excellent laboratory space, access to outstanding core facilities, administrative support, and generous start-up funding.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain an established, well-funded, research program.
- Participate in the development and conduct of innovative and significant research.
- Play an active role in teaching and training undergraduate, graduate, medical students, and postdoctoral fellows.
- Participate in appropriate departmental events, including seminars, retreats, and meetings.
- Participate in College of Medicine events.
