NCI needs to focus on developing a structured approach to Big Data initiatives to ensure optimal use of the institute's limited resources, said NCI Director Norman “Ned” Sharpless at his first joint meeting of the National Cancer Advisory Board and the Board of Scientific Advisors.
Research Project Grant funding at NCI has increased 25 percent, from $400 million in 2013 to $500 million in 2015, NCI Acting Director Douglas Lowy said to the National Cancer Advisory Board Sept. 7.
NCI awarded about 635 R01s in 2015, up from 629 in 2014, said NCI Acting Director Doug Lowy at a recent joint meeting of the National Cancer Advisory Board and the NCI Board of Scientific Advisors.
