Operations Associate

The Cancer Letter is seeking an Operations Associate to support invoicing, customer support, relationship management, and other administrative tasks.

Jessye Kass Consulting has been retained to assist this search.

The role joins The Cancer Letter’s growing Operations team, which supports the editorial arm of the publication. This is a client-facing position that is ideal for someone with a strong attention to details and excellent interpersonal skills.

Location: Remote – Accepting candidates residing in Washington-DC, Maryland, Virginia, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Massachusetts.
Salary: The salary for this role is $50,000-$52,000
Reports to: Account Manager

For 50 years, The Cancer Letter has been the leading source of information on cancer research, drug development, and health care policy and funding. The Cancer Letter readership includes academic oncology, pharmaceutical companies, oncology professional societies, patient advocacy organizations, as well as federal agencies, including NIH, NCI, and FDA. We have won numerous journalism awards for our investigative coverage of issues that shape oncology. Responsibilities: What you’ll be doing

There are four main categories: Billing Support, Subscriber Management, Customer Service, and Administrative Support

Duties include:

  • Subscription renewals and invoicing
  • Customer support and troubleshooting
  • Supporting the subscription and ad sales pipeline
  • Interfacing with contacts at cancer centers, health systems, advertising agencies, biotech and pharmaceutical companies, non-profits, and government agencies to serve as customer support, accounts receivable, and advertising logistics
  • Onboarding new subscribers
  • Drafting and sending reports to clients and partners
  • Other administrative duties as needed
Requirements: What we need from you

We encourage all candidates with some or most of these skills to apply.

  • Minimum 1 year of customer-facing or administrative experience
  • Strong written and verbal communication
  • Technically proficient—you learn new systems quickly
  • A motivated self-starter who is not afraid to ask for help
  • Interest in health, news publications, or oncology

The following would be a benefit but are not required:

  • Experience with Quickbooks, Asana (or similar project management software), and CRMs (especially Monday CRM)
  • Comfort working in the Google Suite (Gmail, Google docs, Google Sheets)
  • Experience working with health systems or similarly complex, matrixed organizations
  • A background in accounting, bookkeeping, invoicing, fundraising, or sales
  • A background or interest in IT, especially networking or web development (WordPress)

Budget: The salary for this role is $50,000-$52,000.
