The Alliance for Clinical Trials in Oncology Foundation (Foundation) has exclusively retained Kirby Bates Associates to identify their new Chief Operating Officer (COO).  

The Alliance for Clinical Trials in Oncology Foundation (Foundation) is seeking a highly motivated and goal driven COO to join their leadership team. The COO will play a pivotal role in overseeing business and clinical research operations, driving strategic growth, increasing efficiency across all departments, and ensuring the successful execution of their mission: to reduce the impact of cancer on people. 

The Alliance Organization consists of:

  • The Alliance for Clinical Trials in Oncology (Alliance)
  • The Alliance for Clinical Trials in Oncology Foundation (Foundation) and its Entities:
    • Alliance NCTN Foundation, (ANF),
    • Alliance Foundation Trials, LLC (AFT), and
    • Alliance Data Innovation Lab, LLC (Data Lab)

The Alliance is a network sponsored by the National Cancer Institute (NCI) that consists of approximately 10,000 cancer specialists at over 1,000 member hospitals, medical centers, and community sites, which  conduct clinical trials with promising new cancer therapy and develops optimal treatment and prevention strategies for cancer, as well as research methods to alleviate the side effects of cancer/ treatments.

The non-profit Foundation supports and enhances the ability of the Alliance to conduct cancer clinical research and address treatment questions through large-scale multidisciplinary clinical trials and translational research studies.

The Opportunity:

Reporting directly to the Alliance Group Chair, the COO will serve as a key member of the executive leadership team and leverage their expertise to:

  • Lead development of organizational and cross-entity strategic plans that drive organizational growth and integration.
  • Manage budget development, resource allocation, negotiate beneficial contracts, and implement metric-driven business plans, ensuring operational as well as financial strength and viability.
  • Direct organizational development activities with a focus on standardization, efficiency, cost-effectiveness, continuous performance improvement and regulatory compliance, while adapting to innovations in scientific oncology research.
  • Foster collaboration with internal and external stakeholders, including global research partners, funding agencies, and government entities.
  • Oversee Contracts Administration, Human Resources, Systems Administration, Corporate Compliance, Grants Administration, Budgets and Resource Planning Clinical Trial Operations, Regulatory Compliance and Quality Management, with a team of directors.
  • Collaborate with federal agencies (e.g., NIH) in the implementation of new federal policies and initiatives.
  • Prepare and present business-oriented and organizational performance reports for the President and Board of Trustees.

Qualifications:

  • MBA, MSN, MPH, Juris Doctor (JD), PhD, MD, advanced degree in health sciences, or other relevant advanced degree required.
  • 10 years of progressive management experience as well as 10 years’ experience in healthcare, research administration, non-profit management, and/or clinical research industry experience.
  • Proven track record of success in developing and implementing strategic plans.
  • Strong financial acumen and experience in resource management, business development, contract negotiations, budget review, and complex financial management.
  • Excellent critical thinking skills, strong conflict resolution, communication, and interpersonal skills.
