Vincent P. Vinciguerra, the principal investigator of the Northwell Health NCI Community Oncology Research Program, won the 2020 Harry Hynes Award.

The award is given annually to NCORP PIs for outstanding contribution to clinical trials and community research.

Vinciguerra was the founding PI of the research group under what was then called the NCI Clinical Community Oncology Program. In 1983, Vinciguerra’s group, then based at North Shore University Hospital, was among the first 59 to receive the CCOP designation.

The Northwell Health NCORP is based at Lake Success, NY, and has 15 affiliated sites in New York state. With 16,000 new analytic cancer cases a year, the Northwell Health system is one of the largest in Northeastern United States. (The Cancer Letter, July 2, 2020).

The NCORP Harry Hynes award recognizes local community researchers who embody the attributes of the leadership and commitment demonstrated by Harry Hynes, a native of Ireland who came to Wichita, KS, in 1960 and went on to develop a CCOP.
