Jennifer Cullen named associate director of Cancer Population Sciences at Case CCC

Jennifer Cullen was named associate director for Cancer Population Sciences at The Case Comprehensive Cancer Center.

Li Li was the former director, and departed in January 2019.

Cullen formerly interim co-director and director of the Epidemiologic Research Program at U.S. Department of Defense Center for Prostate Disease Research. She was also an associate professor at Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences.

She was appointed professor in the Department of Population and Quantitative Health Sciences at the Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine. As associate director, Cullen oversees the broad interests and approaches taken by members of the Case CCC, its consortium institutions, and research members in cancer population sciences.

Case CCC is interested in research that links basic discoveries to communities across northern Ohio, to understand the population risks and to implement studies that reduce these risks through screening and lifestyle changes.

As a cancer epidemiologist, Cullen’s predominant research focus has been on identification and validation of biomarkers and assay panels to forecast prostate cancer outcomes, taking note of health disparities, and considering quality of life trajectories for cancer survivors. She validated the study on the Oncotype Dx 17-gene panel for predicting prostate cancer progression.

The biopsy-based assay, now known as the Oncotype Dx Genomic Prostate Score, can predict both clinical risk and tumor aggressiveness.
