In Brief Sara Hook named associate director for NCI at Frederick

Sara Hook was appointed associate director for NCI at Frederick. Hook currently oversees the performance of the Cancer Research Technology Program at the Frederick National Laboratory for Cancer Research.

Under that umbrella are the RAS Initiative, the National Cryo-EM Facility, the FNL Director’s Lab, the Nanotechnology Characterization Lab, the Antibody Characterization Lab, six core service labs as well as a CLIA-certified lab routinely utilized by the Clinical Center.

Over the past five years under her purview, the CRTP developed 31 contractor CRADAs, interagency agreements, and MOUs with pharmaceutical companies, academic institutes, governmental agencies, and non-profit foundations.

Previously, in her role with the NCI Office of Cancer Nanotechnology Research, Hook coordinated a collaborative multidisciplinary program that brought together engineers, physical scientists, chemists, cancer biologists, and physicians to integrate nanotechnology into cancer therapeutics and diagnostics resulting in more than 100 startup companies and many new INDs and IDEs.

Prior to joining NCI, Hook was a research associate at the University of Virginia Health Sciences Center, Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Genetics. She was a post-doctoral research fellow at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center’s Division of Basic Sciences.
