Drugs and Targets FDA’s Pazdur launches D.I.S.C.O. podcast series

The FDA Oncology Center of Excellence has begun a podcast series called “Drug Information Soundcast in Clinical Oncology (D.I.S.C.O.)” about new product approvals, emerging safety information for cancer treatments, and other topics in cancer drug development.

In the first podcast, OCE Director Richard Pazdur explains that the idea for the podcast came about after a meeting with oncologists.

“Since general oncologists, or oncologists in private practice, see the vast majority of patients with cancer in the United States, I want to be able to get them timely information on new treatments based on FDA’s thorough review process,” Pazdur said in the podcast. “As an oncologist who treated patients for more than 20 years, I know how important it is for the American people to have a greater number of safe and effective treatment options. I want them to know about these treatments.”

The podcasts will discuss newly approved treatments and the clinical trials conducted to establish the treatment’s efficacy, or may summarize emerging information on specific cancers, Pazdur said in the podcast.

The podcast is available on the Oncology Center of Excellence website at www.FDA.gov/OCE and on iTunes, and the OCE will announce new installments on its Twitter account @FDAOncology.
