U of Utah department chairs urge colleagues to sign petition supporting Vivian Lee

The text of the petition follows:

This is a critical moment. It is bigger than any one of us and it will have implications for our university and health system for years—maybe decades—to come.

If we let the commentary and mis-characterizations of the past week go unchecked, our institution, reputation, and leadership will be damaged beyond repair.

Dr. Vivian Lee transformed the University of Utah as an innovator and champion for the institution and for the health of all Utahns. She challenges us to think beyond the good, to the excellent. Our entire University of Utah Health community has thrived under her leadership and her positive impact extends to both a national and international stage. Prominent leaders across academics, health care, government, and industry express constant and consistent respect for Dr. Lee and her work.  She is a person of impeccable character who continuously demonstrates integrity, compassion, thoughtfulness, and fairness.

Our research portfolio has increased more than 25 percent, in that time from $229 million in federal grants to $288 million today. Several of our researchers have received the most prestigious Howard Hughes Medical Investigator appointments in the last two years.

Educationally, the state of Utah has recognized our success and increased our School of Medicine class size by more than 40 positions.
